Septic System Installation, Laid Out by Laser

Residential and commercial septic systems from Tom Oesch's crews, with our own quarry stone in the bed.

A tank sized to the house

A septic job goes wrong in a few familiar ways. An old system fails and the yard tells you first. A tank is sized wrong for the house it serves. Or the ground fights the install: roots, trees and a heavy rock base where the field has to go.

Tank size is based on the number of bedrooms, so that is the first thing we settle with you. Tom Oesch installs residential and commercial systems out of Atlanta, Michigan, and we work for owners in Lewiston and across Northern Michigan.

Jim Yahrmarkt's lot is a good example of hard ground. It needed tree removal and had a heavy rock base, and the same crew that cleared it laid out and installed the system.

Laser first, paperwork second, then dirt

We start with a laser measuring system on the planned location. Everything after it, the depth of the cut, the fall of the pipe and the height of the finished bed, is set from that one measurement.

The paperwork comes before the machine. We file all permit paperwork for the job, so the permit is in motion while we plan the excavation. Then our Hitachi excavators open the ground, rock and roots included.

Sand and stone for the bed come from our own quarry and ride our own trucks to your property. That is why we can say the same thing on every job: one company, from the first measurement to the last bucket of backfill.

One company from paperwork to backfill

A finished system is a concrete tank set level, distribution pipe laid in a gravel bed, and the ground graded and finished over it. We finish the grade ourselves rather than handing off to a second contractor.

If you have an old system, it leaves with us. We remove and dispose of it as the last step, so nothing is left buried or piled behind the house.

“Tom installed our septic system and excavating. His eye for detail is amazing. Our property was very challenging to grade with tree removal and a heavy rock base. He worked fast with precision and provided an end product we are very proud of.”

Our septic job, in six steps

These are the six steps, in the order we run them on every septic system.

  1. Use our laser measuring system to measure the planned location.

The laser sits on a tripod beside a Hitachi at the install site.

  2. File all permit paperwork.

The paperwork goes in before the machine does.

  3. Excavate.

Jim Yahrmarkt's lot had tree removal and a heavy rock base. The same crew handled both.

  4. Supply all materials from our own quarry.

Sand and stone for the bed load at our own quarry and ride our own trucks to the site.

  5. Install the entire system.

Tank, distribution pipe and bed, set and finished by one crew.

  6. Remove and dispose of the old system.

The old system leaves with us.
